Title: Decomposition of KClO3
Post by: solomon_pup on August 27, 2006, 12:38:50 PM
Shalom!  I must say again this website is a very helpfull tool.  I need your help again!

There is a stoichiometry problem on my review

How many moles of KCL are formed by decomposing 0.50 moles of KClO3
Given:   2KClO3 ------>  2KCl  +  3O2
                                     <-------

a.  1.00    b.   0.25       c.   0.50       d.  0.75        e.  0.125

I keep getting .30

I am getting 245/.5  = 149/X  then getting .304

but the answer isnt there!  Perhaps I have my formula weights wrong?

I was sure I got this right:

What weight of O2 can be produced from 61.3 grams of KClO3?
Given :     2KClO3  ---------->   2KCl +  3O2

a... 8.10 g     b.  32.2  g      c.  27.9 g      d.  3.15 g     e.   24.0 g

I got E

0.50 moles of KClO3   --->   x moles of KCl
(Clue: 1:1 ratio)

I was sure I got this right:

What weight of O2 can be produced from 61.3 grams of KClO3?
Given : 2KClO3 ----------> 2KCl + 3O2

a... 8.10 g b. 32.2 g c. 27.9 g d. 3.15 g e. 24.0 g

I got E

Correct :)

oh I suppose the correct answer on the first is just .50 because its the same coeffecient on KCl as on KClO3?

LOL it's only been a few months since Chem I I cant believe I'm allready this rusty!

Read paragraph just below water synthesis equation.
