Title: ozone generators for ozonolysis of alkenes
Post by: Babcock_Hall on December 06, 2019, 03:51:37 PM
What type of generator is required, and how many suppliers make units that are suitable for synthesis?  I found one company, Ozone Solutions, that makes a high-output ozone generator.  I have also seen a few mentioned as being suitable for wastewater treatment.  I would like to work somewhere in the vicinity of a 1-gram scale.

Do you mean 1g O3/hour? I have used one designed for marine aquarium, it gave 50mg/hour. There are this type of generators that can give upp to 2g O3/hour
They are much cheaper then lab-type equipment. You need a stream of air or oxygen. You can use a cheap aquarium-pump as air-source.
Usually ozone is used at -78°C but I have made many ozonolysis reactions at ambient temp. no problem.

Here is one from China, its better if you find one from US och Europe;

Thank you.  I should have said that I was contemplating an ozonolysis of an alkene at the 1-gram scale.

This would be OK then;
