Title: Preparation of 3-Methyl-1-Butyl Ethanoate.
Post by: HawxHunter on December 09, 2019, 09:58:09 AM
We prepared this compound using 3-methyl butan-1-ol and acetic anhydride using reflux and then a separating funnel.

We using a sodium carbonate solution in the separating funnel and my question is what gas does that produce and why did we do that step in the first place. (I think the gas would be CO2 but I’m not sure why we actually did it)

Thanks
