Title: Trans influence and complex stability
Post by: Kyriee on January 26, 2020, 04:47:31 PM
Trans influence is the thermodynamical destabilization of a metal-ligand bond, by the strong sigma donation of another ligand, trans to the first one.
So if a complex is made by weak sigma donor ligands, is it more thermodynamically stable than one made by strong sigma donors? And more inert, as a consequence?
For example: is [Pt(NH3)4]2+ more stable compared to [PtCl4]2-? Ignoring the retrodonation of course.
