Title: Soxhlet
Post by: Krysti on January 30, 2020, 06:13:32 PM
Why should the cotton you use in the Soxhlet extractor be fat-free?
I know that the cotton is used to prevent the solid being carried over into the solvent, but why does it have be fat-free?

Presumably so it doesn’t dissolve in the solvent you’re using and carry through to the distillate.
