Title: Drying by anhydrous CuSO4
Post by: lukas.stib on February 29, 2020, 04:28:11 AM
Hello chemists,

what substances can be dried with CuSO4 anhydrous? Can CuSO4 be used for drying esters, ethers or haloalkanes (Cl2 and Br2)? I think can not be used in Fischer esterification, when it would probably react with the carbox. acids or H2SO4 as catalyst...

Thank you, Lukáš S.

Why not use a non-reactive desiccant like MgSO4, molecular sieves....?
