Is nitration of benzene a homogeneous catalysis even though these compounds are immiscible ?

The solubility of benzene in concentrated sulfuric acid is on the order of 1g per liter of acid. Approximately 1.5 moles of sulfuric acid and 1 mole of nitric acid per mole of benzene are used for the synthesis. Could this be a homogeneous reaction?
