Title: book suggestion: statistical thermodynamics
Post by: sgojja on April 23, 2020, 10:04:42 AM
hello all,
i have started studying statistical mechanics all by myself. i started with B. Widom, i find it useful but i am looking for alternative suggestions. i think the book on statistical mechanics by Horia Metiu can be useful but i can't find the book on the internet, neither i can purchase it till the end of this semester (due to lockdown).
your suggestions will be appreciated.
thank you!

Horia Metiu's book is available in English at Amazon.

You mean, microscopic thermodynamics? It's the topic of one volume of Landau & Lifschitz called "statistical physics". Not exactly simple, intuitive nor concrete.

Molecular Thermodynamics by McQuarrie is very good.
Much better than Atkins.
