Title: Obtaining the final product
Post by: Nathan on June 08, 2020, 11:13:23 AM
I obtained this product after a diels alder reaction. The next step is MeONa/MeOh. How could you get the final product from it?

The reaction of furfuryl alcohol with maleic anhydride varies depending on the conditions and solvent.
Are you sure you have received exo- or endo-III or a mixture of both isomers?

I have assumed that the mixture of the two isomers is obtained favoring the product exo- by heat. How should I go from there?

Heating produces polymers. The reaction is carried out at room temperature for a week. A solvent is also very important. Did you have any specific recipes? Assuming you have the exo-isomer in the last reaction you will receive probably 7-carboxyphtalide.
