Title: How would you make Metampicillin Sodium from Metampicillin?
Post by: rethroo on June 13, 2020, 06:05:09 PM
I am trying to get salt form of metampicillin but don't know how. I think it is metampicillin soidum but how can I get that? How is the reaction happen?

You can see metampicillin and metampicillin sodium in the attachment.

Do you know acid base neutralisation?

I actually made it like that but it seemed too easy so I wasn't sure.

Stoichiometry of acid and base reactions is usually very simple.
In practice, the reaction direction is different. It is from ampicillin salt that, in reaction with formaldehyde, metampicillin sodium is obtained.

If one prepares a stock solution of ampicillin for bacterial work, one should keep careful control of pH.  You might give some thought as to how and why.
