Title: What is this volume of sulfuric acid in Liters?
Post by: Sukarou on September 24, 2006, 04:23:04 AM
i need *delete me* I forgot how to do this! Any1 help me!

In 2001, 165 million ons of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) was produced in the United States. The 2 is small, meaning 2 hydrogen. I don't know how to make the 2 and 4 smaller. XD

A. Convert this quantity to pounds.

B. Convert this quantity to kilograms.

C. What is this volume of sulfuric acid in Liters (density of sulfuric acid is 1.84 g/mL)

Thank You!!!

you can google some conversion infos and it should help with 1 and 2
as for 3..well you know that density=mass/volume..if density is given and mass is already calculated from previous problem then surely you will get the volume.

http://www.onlineconversion.com/ is pretty cool.

Thing is, using conversion tools you know the answer, but you still have no idea HOW to do the conversion.

i think i know, but thing is i forgot! XD

Is this right???

so to convert 165 million tons to pounds.

165
2000

=0.0825 Pounds

or did i do it wrong??

    x        = 2000 lb
165 tons     1 tons                 <- This what you need to set up.

Your conversion factor is 2000 tons = 1 lb. A ratio of 2000:1 which gives you the 2000 .
                                                                                                                                     1

Now you solve for x. I cross multiplied here. Your equation winds up being x*1 = 2000*165. Which equals 330,000 lb. You had it flipped.

I hate these kinds of questions. I hope I represented the process right. Note how I did it. Same units in the denominatos and numerators. Now you do the same with your other 2 questions. You just need to know the conversion factors. One side is a ratio of what you want to know to what you have, and the other side is your conversion factor. Google is nice for conversion factors.
