Title: Redox Reduction Reaction Lab
Post by: joshua123 on August 21, 2020, 07:31:53 PM
Reaction : Reduction of 4-tert-cyclohexanol with NaBH4 and ethanol
what are some sources of errors affecting cis : trans ratio during reaction or work up.
i was thinking maybe loss of reagents or impurities can affect major product?

explain efficacy vs efficiency as a means for preparing the needed starting material for the reduction reactions. major product is trans- 4-tert-cyclohexanol

Do you mean reduction of 4-tert butylcyclohexanone?

It is not easy to see how an impurity could affect the ratio, unless it acted catalytically in some manner.  Do you have something specific in mind?
