Title: addition of BrOH

hello chemists
 I really had a confusion regarding BrOH molecule.....When it adds to double bond it breaks as Br+ OH-
but when it is used to oxidise alcohol it breaks as H+ OBr- ...can you guys tell.me.the reason behind it??
