Title: Lewisstructure

Hi everyone.

I'm stuck with an exercise. Draw the lewisstructure of HIO3. I tried it but i've no idea if it's correct.

I think one normal covalent bond between Oxygen and iodine and the two dative covalent bonds.

Sorry for the bad grammar but i'm not an American or English guy.

As often happens in this Forum, questions that are not exactly precise can be interpreted differently.
The question is about HIO3, but this acid in aqueous solution is largely ionized. In solutions with a concentration > ~ 0.3 M, the non-ionized form prevails, so Timson28 drew a rather correct structure satisfying the octet rule. If a specific concentration much less than 0.3 M were given then Chenbeier would be right.
A compromise solution would be to draw both answers.
