Title: Melanin extraction

I'm looking for a way to extract/purify melanin from the supernatant of an e. coli culture that does not involve an acid crash. We ultimately want to scale the process up and use of/disposal of the amount of acid needed at bioreactor volumes is likely not feasible. I found almost nothing in the literature about alternative methods. Any ideas?
