Hi All,
New to this forum. I am a writer by profession, I am currently working on a locked room mystery novel where the victim is wearing an acetate shirt, what chemicals an cause acetate fabric to catch fire. I was thinking of incedenary bullet which cacuses the fabric to catch fire.
Is there any other chemical (possibly something that was available in the 1940s) which when shot or sprayed at acetate fabric can cause it to catch fire?
Any creative ideas are welcome!

That would be quite difficult, acetate fabric is hardly flammable. That's why it replaced celluloid, as a much safer alternative.

What other material would you suggest that can be used as a flammable fabric or something that can make a fabric flammable which is not easily noticed even when worn?

Aircraft have been constructed with a cloth skin that is doped with lacquer like substances.
Some of these substances were quite flammable.
I am not sure that this would do for clothing or why anyone would want to wear such clothing.
I guess when one writes fiction there is some disbelief cast aside.
In any case there are probably many more combinations that are possible but not likely.
It all depends on how much "poetic license" you want to take.
