Title: Predicting yield of HX addition reactions.

I was wondering how one predicts yield on reactions such as this:

Both reactions should be possible, right? The halide will attach to the tertiary carbon and the hydrogen will attach to the carbon that already has most hydrogen atoms (Markovnikov's rule). Will one have a higher yield than the other? I feel like the answer is yes as my textbook seems to favor reactions analagous to the top one in worked examples.
