Hello chemists,
I want to ask you how much anhydrous zinc chloride should I use in Lucas´ reagent for the synthesis of 1,3-dichloropropane from 100 g of 1,3-propanediol and 96 g of HCl according to stoichiometry? Or not use ZnCl2 as catalyst for synthesis of 1,3-dichloropropane? Of course, I know that I will have to convert 96 g HCl to 35% hydrochloric acid.
Thank you, Lukáš S.

You need excess HCl with equimolar ZnCl2,

I dont know if its so good to make primary chlorides?

OK, thank you.
