Title: volumetric measurement : significant figures
Post by: xshadow on April 08, 2021, 06:15:09 AM
IF I have a 100,00ml flask with a ± 0,08 ml tolerance  and if I suppore I correctly bring to volume (100ml)  how I should write this measurement:

100,0ml
100,00ml

the uncertainty is on the second decimal figure speaking of "ml" ( +0,08ml)but don't understand why my slides says 100,0ml with 4   significant rules .

100,00000....0  + 0,08 --->  100,08ml
100,00000....0  - 0,08 ---->  99,92 ml

thanks

Can't you ignore significant figures and write 100.00±0.08?

sigfigs are just an approximation, they are better than nothing when you have no other data - but you have it in this case.
