Title: do cotinine and malic acid form a reaction together?
Post by: pity.fx on April 20, 2021, 03:54:02 PM
hi, does this work?

C10H12N2O (cotinine, bad) +C4H6O5 (malic acid) = C10H14N2 (nicotine, good) + C4H4O6 (tartrate)
(checks out by numbers, 1:1)

nicotine usually reacts with o2 to cotinine and water, but is it possible to get back the nicotine?

No. You need a reducing agent like lithium aluminium hydride.
