Title: Phthalates In Pool Water

Hello all

I put up a vinyl pool for my kids and it is enclosed with a PVC fence.  I just learned about phthalates and have some questions.

If I paint the PVC fencing, would it encapsulate and prevent/reduce leaching?

Is there a practical way to filter and remove phthalates from the water?

Not all grades of PVC are high in phthalates. Generally the softer the plastic is, the more plasticizers it has, but now other plasticizers are frequently used, particularly in kids toys. Some soft plastic pools are not even made of PVC. It may be worthwhile just contacting the manufacturer and asking what polymer the pool is made of and what kind of plasticizers are in it. Then make a decision accordingly.
