Title: Looking For Plating Ideas to Protect Against Nickel
Post by: siennainlondon on June 18, 2021, 08:15:39 AM
Hello

(Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place! I'm new)

I have removable dental braces that are made of some alloy that include Nickel. I'm allergic to nickel and whilst I don't have a reaction in my mouth, I also think that nickel is a dangerous toxin and I don't want so much exposure to it. My dentist wants me to wear the braces as much as possible.

He doesn't seem to care about the nickel though and doesn't really take it seriously. I was wondering whether coating it in something like polyurethane (providing I let it off-gas) or having it plated in another (non-toxic) metal would help?

Is there anything else I can do? I've asked for the name of the lab that makes the braces for me to see if they can make me a nickel free version but I don't have high hopes.

Thank you
Sienna
