Title: n-factor or valencey factor calculation

How do I find the n-factor of methane in:
CH₄ + 2O₂  :rarrow: CO₂ + 2H₂O

By my understanding I'm supposed to find the change in oxidation number of carbon, which would be 8. But looking online I find it to be 4.
