Title: esters to alkanes
Post by: Darkstar on September 19, 2004, 09:33:40 PM
How do you hydrogenate esters all the way to alkanes as in this process:
ethyl 2-hydroxycyclopentane carboxylate to 2-methylcyclopentanone?

this isn't plain hydrogenation. A hydroxyl (-OH) group is lost too.
