Title: Help identifying ir spectra
Post by: MiuMixi on October 04, 2021, 05:45:45 PM
Hi everybody,

I am a but new to analyzing IR spectra, and I am wondering what other vibrations/functional groups could be identified from this chart. The only one I got is alcohol so far, which was confirmed via a Lucas test, but was not confirmed via solubility test.

Not much of an IR expert. Yes, you have strong -OH region (could also be -NH2) which you already found, strong C-H region (not that actually tells you much). Bands around 1400-1500 and 1100 are not very characteristic by themselves and can correspond to a number of bonds. And further, you have a fingerprint region which is hard to decipher unless you are checking for smth specific.

Do you have any idea at all what is this supposed to be?

I will assume that you are trying to find the structure of an unknown.  One thing you can do is to eliminate or disfavor certain functional groups from consideration.
