Title: Best way to determinate alkali metals AAS/AES
Post by: xshadow on November 13, 2021, 03:54:57 PM
Hi !!
I have a doubt...
What is the better analytical techinque in order to determinate alkaline metals and alkaline eath metals??

AAS or AES?

Because they have low E.I so I don't know if with AAS I can determinate them....or I risk ionization

Thanks

Depends on the type of AAS. ICP-AES is a little more sensitive than flame AAS and has a higher dynamic range and can do many elements simultaneously. For that reason flame AAS is pretty supplanted by ICP-OES and ICP-MS at this point except for a few specialized applications, and where cost is a concern. Graphite furnace AAS though exceeds ICP-AES in terms of sensitivity for certain elements... but again is limited by throughput and the number of elements you can analyze simultaneously.

Most analytical chemical manufacturers have nice literature that summarizes these differences for prospective buyers, e.g., https://www.perkinelmer.com/Content/relatedmaterials/brochures/bro_worldleaderaaicpmsicpms.pdf
