Title: Matching question with electrochemical cell, urgent
Post by: yoyohs on December 08, 2021, 02:42:17 PM
Consider the following electrochemical cell, with a KCl(aq) salt bridge:

Zn(s) | ZnCl2(aq) || HCl(aq) | H2(g) | Pt

Identify the matching pairs below. Note that for metallic substances, "metal" refers to chemical properties and "electrode" refers to physical properties, though they are the same substance.

A. electrons
B. H2(g)
C. Pt electrode
D. chloride ions
E. Zn metal
F. Zn electrode
G. H+(aq)

1. reducing agent
2. oxidizing agent
3. produced at the anode
4. flow towards the Zn electrode
5. produced at the cathode
6. does not lose nor gain mass
7. loses mass

right now, i have the following:
A3
B2
C6
D4
E1
F7
G5

but this seems to be incorrect, where am i going wrong?

A, C, D, E and F are correct, B and G are wrong. Can you write out the equation for the spontaneous cell reaction? What is the oxidizing agent and what is the reducing agent?
