Title: Lycopene Isomer Question
Post by: NYGiantsNYYanks on November 09, 2006, 10:45:33 PM
Hi all, I am new here so bear with me... I have a question on my organic chemistry lab that reads, "According to Linus Pauling, why is 13-cis lycopene more stable than 7-cis lycopene? Explain."  I know they are just isomers of one another, but I'm not really sure exactly why the 13-cis lycopene is more stable than the 7-cis lycopene.  If someone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you in advance.

By the way, this is a nice site you guys have here.  :)

Have you looked at the structures of these two molecules?  I think if you look up the structure and compare them you will be able to answer your question.
