Well basically I'm trying to do some interesting and useful experiments with nickel, since I have some tablets that have been lying around for some time. If anyone has any suggestions I'll take them. In the meantime I'll check Google.

It appears you might do some magnetic experiments.

If you have HNO3, dissolve one of these nickel tablets and make a solution of nickel nitrate (with still quite some residual HNO3 left). Nickel salts have a fairly extensive aqueous chemistry, with lots of complexes and nice colors.
Beware though, dissolving nickel in HNO3 produces very toxic NO/NO2 and nickel salts are said to be carcinogens, so be careful.

...and, if you are bored, you could determine the w/w - percentage of your Nickel sample by dissolving a certain amount in HNO3, precipitating the Ni2+ with Diacetyldioxime (Dimethylglyoxime) and after having wheighted the mass of your ppt. you can easily calculate the purity of your Nickel sample. Afterwards you can show off that you have Nickel tablet with 98% purity ;D.
