Title: G orbitals
Post by: zeshkani on January 17, 2007, 11:37:58 AM
hi there i have question,
since after the f orbital, the g orbital comes next,  deduce the atomic number of the first element at which g orbitals would begin to be filled, on the basis of the patterns of the d and f orbitals ?

i tired doing this, but i just could not come up, where such an element would be on the periodic table.

The question doesn't state that it exists, you are just after an atomic number...

you know that nd comes after (n+1)s
and that nf after (n+2)s
so ng may come after (n+3)s
