Post by: heidiyuwinghay on January 18, 2007, 11:50:24 AM
if we use soaps in water,a layer of foam/lather is formed, showing there is cleaning effect.
but in fact where does the lather come from? new substance produced by the reaction of soaps and water? or just air-trapping soap solution?

No chemical reation  -  just physical. It's air trapped in bubbles. The soap makes the bubbles more stable.    Look up micelles - they might help you understand how soap works.    :)
