Title: Guanidines from cyanamides
Post by: islandscience on June 05, 2007, 01:29:16 PM
Been trying to follow a prep which involves refluxing an amine  salt and my cyanamide in chlorobenzene but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Hindered amines make this reaction difficult - a Lewis acid like AlCl3 often helps. Check out Organic Synthesis (http://www.orgsyn.org/) Collective Vol 4, page 769.
