Title: Disproportionation
Post by: SSS on August 07, 2007, 11:14:02 PM
is this reaction disproportionation?

Fe3O4-----FeO  +   Fe2O3.

Fe2O3 is ferroferric oxide right? oxidation no of Fe is -8/3???
how can it be in fractions?

No, not by the strictest definition of the word.

You can think of Fe3O4 as some iron being in the 2+ state and some being in the 3+ state.
