Title: Need Help w/ Chemistry Lab Question!!
Post by: Lyriana on September 02, 2007, 05:29:38 PM
On one of my chemistry lab session, we need to do experiment about oxygen.

2 KClO3 (sol) -> 2KCl (sol) + 3 O2 (g)

We need to use this formula and do experiment to collect the oxygen using the displacement of water. We need 2 8 oz bottles of oxygen.

1. What does the collection of oxygen by displacement of water indicate about the solubility of O2 in water?

2. Add about 10 mL of water to the oxygen-filled bottles and lower a glowing splint into the bottle. Allow the combustion to continue for several seconds. Remove the splint, cover the bottle and swirl to mix the water & gas.

> I don't know how the answer #1, I know that the oxygen have more solubility in cold water b/c hot water decrease the dissolved oxygen concentration.

> #2, does it talking about C + O2 = CO2  ??

Please help me on this if anyone knows the answers because my lab it's the coming Friday! I have try to found answer on my own, but i really can't understand it.

I am really appreciated for the *delete me*

Will you collect anything over the liquid, if the gas was easily soluble in that liquid?

I don't think we will collect anything over the liquid, but we do need to prepare to collect oxygen by displacement of water.

You have just answered your first question.
