Title: Can someone give me or point me to..
Post by: gshamilton on October 05, 2007, 01:52:53 PM
the best (brief/understandable for a non-expert) explanation of the sugnificance of term qualitative analysis within chemistry? I actually own qualitativeanalysis.com and have placed it for sale (see parked page itself). But I'd like to become more knowledgable about what it pertains to. It has significance also in field of social search, but on google chemistry comes up as much as anything. Thank you in advance.

Qualitative analysis refers to analysis without respect to amount in detail.

I.E.
You mix chemical A and chemical B, is there a reaction? Maybe a rough estimate of how much.

Quantitative Analysis is taking the same chemical A and B, knowing exactly how much you have, exactly how much you end up with, etc.

Example.
Is there lead in the water supply? Is a qualitative question. The answer is yes or no.
If there is lead in the water supply, how much? This is a quantitative question.
