1.In terms of "hard and soft" acid base concept, which end of the SCN- ion would you expect to coordinate to Ru3+ and to Ru 2+??
2. Indicate which of the following Lewis bases(ligands) should be able to coordinate through more than one donor atoms, and indicate for such bases the hard and soft ends:
a) SO4 2-, b)S2O3 2-, c)SCN-, d) NO3-
3.Please comment on the fact that the only important ore of mercury is cinnabar, HgS, whereas zinc occurs in nature as sulfides, silicates, carbanates, and oxides.
4. briefly explain why BF3 is monomeric while ALCL3 is a dimer..
thx all!!

in forum rules: show that you at least attempted the problem.

i know ru3+ is hard
and ru2+ is softer
but i don't know if S or CN is softer....

why AlCl3 is dimer and BF3 is monomeric?
is it related to the outermost orbital?
B cannot obtain octet rule??
