Title: Destroy odor molecules
Post by: Katey999 on December 07, 2007, 12:25:08 AM
Are there any chemicals out there that destroy odor molecules?

I'm trying to mask a smell by wrapping something in a piece of paper towel and soaking it with a chemical that would destroy the molecules as they permeate out.

Thanks in advanced,

Katey

Edit:  Would Febreze work?

Depends what the chemical is producing the smell.  Often oxidation will get rid of chemical smells from thiols or disulfides (sulfur containing) which can be done by cleaning with a mixture of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and household hydrogen peroxide.  Cleaning with vinegar (acetic acid) or just baking soda neutralizes odors as well.  What is it that smells?

Occam's razor- Things should not be multiplied beyond nessesity.  I.E.  just use fabreeze or baking soda.
