Title: Reactions of Cyclohexanol
Post by: DevilsCandy003 on March 01, 2005, 12:40:11 AM
In my lab we must run three reactions on an alcohol, I was assigned cyclohexanol. Two of these reactions can be ones we have already perfeformed in lab. I have chosen dehydration to cyclohexene and oxidation to cyclohexanone. For my final reaction I can either run another experiement from my starting material or from either of my two products. Do you have any suggestions of a reaction that I probably have not performed and wont take a lot of time (less than 5 hours) to complete?
Thanks for your time and suggestions.

You can change it to a halide.

You can eliminate water or oxidize it to adipic acid.

You could do a coupling reaction with an acid to make an ester.

You could also do a Williamson ether synthesis.
