Title: Ferrocene Rings

Does anyone know why the 5 carbon rings of ferrocene are reciprocate, or opposing one another? I'm not sure if it has something to do with the p orbitals or the negative charges of the rings repelling?

I think it actually has to do with the d-orbitals on the iron more than anything else.  There are examples of metallocenes (with different metals sandwiched between the Cp rings) which are not parallel to one another.

Maybe one of the inorganic experts around here will chime in with a more detailed response.
