Title: Nitric Acid: NOx gases diffuse through PE material?

Dear Forummers,

I have a question, kindly give your thoughts on it.  :)

Given a PE inline within a metal drum. (The purpose of the metal drum is to support the PE inline), it contains Nitric Acid 63%.

All the cover are tighten, no leakage when packaged and cover with a PE bag to prevent dust from settling on top of the metal drum.

About maybe a few weeks later, it was discovered that rust is presence on top of te metal drum.

It was concluded that the NOx gases from the Nitric Acid disffused through the PE inline.

My question is will NOx gases diffuse through the PE inline.
