Title: [Question]About Iron
Post by: yoyowong007 on March 04, 2008, 09:01:34 AM
Iron has the electrond configuration of [Ar]4s2 3d6.
If it wants to be stable ,it can only give 1 electron ,but why it has +2 or +3 charge in its ion?

yoyowong007:  You've asked a number of questions about the properties of the transition elements.  Might I suggest you start with some very basic text on them, their incomplete d subshell, and their resulting properties,  over here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transition_metal)  Then come back with more specific questions.
