Title: Wilstatter Synthesis - Org Chem Natural Products - Need a bit of help
Post by: Asmodeus on March 27, 2005, 04:11:57 PM
Hi,

This being my very first post, I want to assure you that I'm not into the production of Cocaine ;)

I'm writing a report for my org chem of nat pro course on Cocaine, and thought it would be interesting to discuss the first synthesis from ecgonine, as described by Wilstatter in Anal chem, 1923, 484, 111.

You might ask: "Why not just reference the article and leave us alone?"  simple, I can't find the article anywhere.  I searched the ACS's e-Journals (via school) with no success, my last hope is SciFinder Scholar (which I tried to use today, but library was closed due since it is Easter Sunday).

I would greatly appreciate if someone could either scan, or send me a link to said article or even tell me where I ought to look, as I believe the first synthesis is worth mention in my paper.

One more thing, if I may.  Does anyone have a good site on the biosynthesis of cocaine?  I have the full biosynthesis, but what I'm looking for is further explanation on the enzymes used, such as SAM, pyridoxal phosphate, P450, etc.

Thanks in advance, and best wishes during this Easter weekend.

Anal. Chem. started in 1947. I doubt he published before the journal existed.

Thank Mitch, where do I find it ?

And according to "Total Synthesis of (+)-Cocaine via Desymmetrization of a meso-dialdehyde" (Org Lett, 6 (19), 3305-3308 - Reference 2) it states:

Wilstatter,R; Wolfes, O; Mader, H. Anal Chem 1923, 484, 111

Are there more than one Anal Chem out there?
