Title: Empirical Formula
Post by: qbkr21 on September 09, 2008, 08:56:39 PM
I need some help finding the Empirical Formula  ???

(I) 0.0091 mol C, 0.0186 mol H, and 0.0045 mol O

0.0001 Mol C/0.0045 = 2.02222222222222222222222222222222222222
0.0186 Mol H/0.0045 = 4.13333333333333333333333333333333333333
0.0045 Mol O/0.0045 = 1

I know I need to multiply to get closer to a whole number, but by what.

Thanks,

I'd say the ratio is close enough. There is really no way to make it more of a whole number. C2H4O is a very possible answer.
