Title: Calculatin Ion Concentration

Hey guys I am having a small problem that I can not seem to get right.

Question: The chief ions in seawater are Na+, Mg2+, and Cl-. Seawater is approx. 0.438 M NaCl and 0.0512 M MgCl2. What us the mass Cl- (that is the total [Cl-] in seawater?

I know the procedure to calculate M, but when I write the balanced equation I keep getting 3 mols of Cl-.

NaCl + MgCl2 --h20 > Na+ + Mg2+ + 3Cl-

If someone could write the entire solution step by step that would be great.

No such thing as balanced equation for this question, there is no reaction between NaCl and MgCl2, and they are just in a mixture.

What is concentration of Cl- from NaCl? From MgCl2? Add.
