Title: Point Group
Post by: ixi on September 25, 2008, 08:27:37 PM
Assign the point group symmetry for bis-benzenechromium

Our prof gave us this chart to follow, and I got:

Does the molecule belong to one of the special groups?  No
Cn?  Yes, C6
6C2's perpendicular to C6?  Yes
Sigma h? Yes

So I got D6h

Is that right?

Sounds about right, if you're assuming that the benzenes are eclipsed (I don't honestly know if they are or not)
