Title: Equillibrium
Post by: DIZZ on April 18, 2005, 06:24:34 PM
At eqillibrium methane gas reacts with water vapour to produce carbon monoxide gas and Hydrogen gas, I would like to know how adding solid calcium chloride (reacts with water vapour) affects the equillibrium.  I know that in an equillibrium equation solids are not included when the system is heterogeneous, but I'm wondering if it affects equillibrium because of something to do with saturation?  Thanks for your help.

Cacium chloride is anhydrous (sucks water into itself). This reduces the concentration of water vapour available to react with methane, thereby shifting the equilibrium to counteract this.
