Title: basis set question, point groups and theoretical chemsitry
Post by: xir on November 17, 2008, 06:50:13 AM
Hey everyone

I have a question about point groups basis sets, are these the same as the basis sets (eg 6-31G) that we see in theoretical chemistry? If so how do the two inter realate? I notice that they both share many concepts which seem familiar such as normalisation etc.

The book i am reading (group theory for chemists, kieran c.molly) describes translational vectors as basis sets, i am unsure how to relate to a larger theoretical framework of exponents and coefficients.

Any help is appreciated.
