Hi, i had a lab where we have to give the balanced equation for magnesium ion which precipitated out from adding Na2HPO4 adn then we added NaOH to make it basic. Is NaOH included in the equation? PLease help me with the products!

Na2HPO4 + NaOH =
then
Mg(NO3)2+ Na3PO4

I am just wondering where nitrate is from?

Nitrates are always used in qualitative analysis.
Of course you can always use only Mg2+ but then use PO43- instead of salt
