Title: toxic analogue of sucrose
Post by: Brower on May 12, 2005, 12:38:50 AM
Dear all

collective wisdom of board needed.  I want to find a toxic analogue of sucrose that will be inactivated by separation into its component sugars.  Alternatively, it could give off a colour if it is cleaved into its component sugars.  The only success I have found at the moment is xylitol as a fructose substitute, but I can't find where I can get some glucose-xylitol.

Thank you all in advance

Have you considered doing a condensation reaction to make it?

so, you need a toxic, sweet sugar, that, if metabolized, results in a non-toxic compound ? The only sweet and toxic (mutagenic) compound that i know is stevioside. It cannot be bought anymore (5-6 years age was literally banned as substitute for sugar for its mutagenic properties)
