Don't really know where to post this, so move if necessary.
From an article I use I quote:
'The solution was sonicated for 5h at a power level of 3 W'
How do I get the power level of the sonication I get in my ultrasonic bath? I only know the frequency it uses (40kHz). Anybody knows this?

If your sonicator is fixed-frequency, the power output should probably be reported in the specifications for that model. This may be on the sticker with the serial number or you might find it in the manual.

I've inherited some equipment without manuals, but I can usually find it online. Try looking online on the manufacturer's website and a lot of times they will have the manuals or specifications posted.

So I found the output to be 70 W. Which is very high compaired to the article (3 W). So I send an email to the manufacturer, they replied:
The power of the machine will not give you the power applied to your samples, since you do not know the efficiency of your machine. This is not determined, and there is no good way to determine this. Several normalisation-institutes have been looking for years to determine this.
So now im just wondering how the authors came up with the number.

Was the orginal work done with an ultrasonic probe in a Suslick flask rather than an unltrasonic bath?

Good suggestion. It doesn't say in the article. But I've looks at some probes online and they seem to operating at a power level from 300-1500 W.
